Wills Eye officially moved to its newly-constructed home at 840 Walnut Street on July 10th, 2002. Pliner Solutions was contracted to design, implement, and manage the information technology framework for this state-of-the-art facility.
Our Role
Pliner Solutions started as a consultant to help with the planning stages of moving the Wills Eye network to its new location. Our role quickly expanded to the design of a completely new IT infrastructure, with new servers, workstations, and network equipment. After the design stage, we succesfully deployed over 150 new workstations, a dozen servers, and implemented a secure network using the latest technologies.
The IT department at Wills Eye is managed by Pliner Solutions. Microsoft's Active Directory is used extensively to manage workstations, servers, security policies and permissions, user accounts, and more. Our staff responds quickly to user requests as well as any problems that may arise, and uses help-desk software designed by Pliner Solutions to track these events.
The server room at Wills Eye was designed by Pliner Solutions, and includes climate control, backup power, and a fiber-optic, gigabit-Ethernet backbone. Computer servers are clustered, to provide 100% uptime to all users. All workstations use Cat 6 cabling to connect to the network, and Pliner Solutions implemented a robust security infrastructure to isolate departmental and private practice workstations from each other as needed.
In addition to computer and network management, Pliner Solutions also manages the telephone system and security system for Wills Eye. The telephone system is a Nortel Meridian1 PBX with Nortel CallPilot for voice-mail and voice applications, and utilizes a custom-built telephone directory which interfaces with CallPilot's LDAP directory.
The physical security system at Wills Eye is managed by Pliner Solutions, utilizing Lenel's OnGuard security system application.
Wills Eye Surgical Network
Pliner Solutions also provides the Wills Eye Surgical Network with IT consulting services, including workstation and server management, network security, and more. The Wills Eye Surgical Network includes nine ambulatory surgery centers that span eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
