Kandel Electronics, Inc. is a retailer of reconditioned electronic testing equipment.
Our Role
Kandel Electronics was formed in 1990, and began as a mail-order company, sending traditional paper catalogs to customers.
In recent years, however, their sales had been declining, and the costs of preparing, producing, and distributing catalogs was high. Kandel Electronics approached Pliner Solutions about developing a web site that could supplement or replace their catalog.
In April 2004, KandelElectronics.com was launched. The results have been tremendous, according to Robert Kandel, President:
… we have had a surge in business that we never envisioned. The increase in the number of emails requesting quotations has increased from about 5 per week to an astounding 25 or more per day.
Internet Marketing
Pliner Solutions has had a solid track record of success with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for its clients. Through the use of SEO and an ongoing bid-per-click advertising campaign, we were able to create an increase both in traffic and sales for Kandel Electronics:
We had an increase in sales of 25% from 2003 to 2004, and the web site did not go live until April 2004. Our foreign sales went from almost nonexistent to over 10% of our total sales. 2004 was the most profitable year in the history of our company.

Development and Design
Pliner Solutions designed the site as an online catalog with two goals in mind: make it easy for customers to find what they're looking for, and make it easy for Kandel Electronics to update their inventory.
The site's interface is designed to be simple, efficient, and stylish. The main menu displays product categories such as "Generators", "Microscopes", etc. Each category (and their sub-categories) are accessible from a convenient fold-out menu, making it easy for a customer to browse the site — no section of the catalog is more than a click away.
The catalog is fully database-driven and fully searchable by model, manufacturer, or description, making it easy for customers to find a specific piece of equipment.
Kandel Electronics keeps an inventory in a computer system at their warehouse, so we made it easy to synchronize their database with the web catalog by developing a utility that imports their data.
